Rwanda

One small country. Three utterly different ecosystems. No wasted days.

5 – 8 nights·Year-round

Rwanda is the most logistically coherent safari destination in East Africa. Everything is within a two-hour drive of Kigali. There are no long transfer days, no bush flights, no lost days in transit. In five nights you can do more than in ten nights in a larger country.

Volcanoes National Park for the gorillas — Rwanda's permits cost more than Uganda's but the infrastructure is exceptional and the experience is seamless. Akagera for the classic savanna Big Five experience — the park was restored by African Parks in 2010 and is now one of the best-managed game reserves on the continent. Nyungwe for chimpanzees and the canopy walkway suspended above the forest.

Rwanda works as a standalone journey or as the ideal beginning or ending to a broader East Africa circuit.

What Elea does here

Rwanda gorilla permits are allocated months in advance. We secure them before building anything else. We also have direct relationships with the two camps inside Volcanoes National Park that offer the best positioning for the trek.
